(EMI) --After having hung up the phone with a very special, life-long friend, whom I haven't seen in over twelve years due to the distance of the commute (he lives in South Africa and I in Oklahoma), my heart heavy and righteous indignation was beginning to boil in my soul.
This man is an apostle of apostles. Outside of being an exhorter, encourager, and tremendous teacher of the Word of God, he operates in spirit-anointed discernment like no one I have ever known in thirty years of ministry. These gifts he has never abused or used for his own selfish gain or agenda, but as a good steward, always flowed in them to build up his precious fold assigned to him by the Good Shepherd.
Through deliberate manipulation and coercion, the elders in one of the churches he started began to lead the people astray and against my friend. Before he could wrap his arms around the deception, the church had become a full-blown cult.
What I am driving toward is this:
These evil elders told lies about my friend and his beautiful wife to the entire congregation. As the majority of the crowd believed these lies, only a few ofr the scattered sheep listened to their spirits and had enough integrity to check out the elders' story.
Sure enough, when they personally went to my friend and his wife (this is the scriptural approach that Jesus Himself taught when we see - or perceive - that our brother or sister has sinned),
light began its wonderful shining as the truth was gloriously revealed.
This unfortunate event deeply hurt my friends. But througth an email from them just the other day, this song was birthed in my heart as they pressed forward to forgive their spiritual abusers and users.
We can STOP so many clever deceptions designed by the enemy to bring hurt, division, and deep scars to members of the Body of Christ by simply NOT BELIEVING EVERYTHING WE HEAR! But by the mouths of two or three witnesses, let every single word be established (Matthew 18:16)!
Be courageous.
Maintain integrity.
Do justice.
Love mercy.
Walk humbly before your God, and...
BELIEVE THE BEST!

Verse 1
There I was just sittin' in my chair watchin' some TV.
When the phone rang, I picked it up and said,
"Hey - been a long time."
And then she went on, and on and on,
I couldn't believe my ears.
"I won't believe it! Who told you that?
HEY, I'VE KNOWN HIM FOR YEARS!"
CHORUS
To believe the best
such a gift
I don't know, what you have heard
You've got to pass the test
It'll give you a lift
keeps you pure and you'll be blessed
If you believe the best...
Verse 2
Put on my jacket got in the car
Drove about a mile or two.
This was my friend she was talking about
This was somethin' that I had to do.
Then his heart broke - as I told him
The rumor and how it appears.
He said, "I forgive her for what she's sayin;, hey,
HEY, I'VE KNOWN HER FOR YEARS!
(Chorus)
The version below is NOT the final version, only a quick rendition recorded in a home studio in preparation for the producer of the CD.
